Always check with your physician before doing Zumba or any other form of exercise.
How many calories can I burn doing Zumba?
That depends on how much you put into it. If your intensity level is high, your calorie burn will be as well. Vice versa with minimal intensity. Based on personal experience, you can easily burn 500-600 calories in a 45 or 60 minute class. Tot get the highest burn, listen to your body and push yourself as hard as your body and physician will allow.
What is the class structure?
Zumba is a total body dance fitness class. In a 45 minute class, we typically do a warm-up for 10 minutes. This is followed by cardio intervals for 30 minutes and wrapped up with a 5 minute cool down. A 5-10 portion of the cardio time may be used for abs/sculpting. The times vary based on actual class length (shorter for a 30 minute class, longer for a 60 minute class), but the structure remains the same.
I am so uncoordinated. How can I do Zumba?
Anyone can do Zumba. The beauty of Zumba is that it is all about going at your own pace and expressing your own style. It is less about perfection and more about persistence. It may take a few times for you to feel like a dancing queen with all the steps but you will. In the meantime, if you don't like what I'm doing, incorporate your own movement!
I am out of shape. How can I do Zumba?
Always check with your physician before doing Zumba or any other form of exercise. No offense will be taken if you modify the routine to work for your needs. If we're doing something high-impact and you need to lower the intensity, do it. Based on your doctor's advice and what your body tells you, if it does not feel "right", don't do it.
What dance styles will I learn?
A typical class could include Salsa, Merengue, Reggaeton, Cumbia, Mambo, Samba, Hip-Hop, Bhangra, Bellydance, Soca and more. You will not be disappointed. If I'm feeling froggy, you best believe you will jump!
Can I join a class if the session has already started?
Of course you can. You can drop in at any time. At first, the regular participants will seem more in sync with me but the more you come, the easier the steps are to follow.
